The weather of the last few weeks was fantastic, but it was too good to last. Today it rained most of the day. Tomorrow the forecast is snow. After that we get back to more normal temperatures, but still not bad. It’s going to freeze at night and the sun will melt the frost during the day. Eventually the frost will win. Any tillage needs to be finished in the week after turkey day.
We’ve been hauling dry corn to the ethanol plant and have almost made enough room for what is in the field. With eight tenths of an inch of rain we now have wet fields. The puddles are back. Add some snow and things get smeary. I hope the sun can dry things out a bit but I doubt it. We’ll be getting corn out of the field as soon as we can. No football for me Thursday. I’ll be in the combine.
Harvest and tillage will now switch to the times when the ground is firmed by frost. When things thaw out we’ll not be moving as much. The harvest has now developed a new wrinkle. We’ll see what full moon brings.
