This basket of gourds and corn sits on our step as a colorful reminder of the bounty of this years harvest. It has indeed been a bountiful harvest with our bins overflowing with corn and soybeans, garden produce in the freezer, hay in the barn and a woodpile ready to heat our house. So on this night before Thanksgiving I would like to list a few of the things that I am thankful for.
For the life of a farmer, tending seed and helping turn the earth’s nutrients and the suns heat into food and fuel for the world.
For a wonderful, understanding wife who keeps me from messing up too much. Who is still my best friend, the one I want to talk to and share life with.
For three children who all have good jobs and are making a life for themselves that has meaning as well as enough pay to live by.
For a church that is filled with people of good will and understanding.
For a community that is thriving and continuing to provide jobs and education for those who live here.
For a country that, although it is not perfect, is trying to be.
For a life filled only with small problems when so many others do not have enough to eat, a place to sleep, or the security of a safe, nurturing place to live.
These and so many other things I have been provided with in this corner of Minnesota. When I have so much, I must give thanks. May you have a blessed holiday season.
Michael
