It’s the start of a new year and a new decade. I’ve never been one for new years resolutions since I just end up ignoring them anyway. I am a fan of thoughtful words. You will find several of them hanging up in my office. I came upon these words today under the heading “Farm as if you’ll farm for ever, and live as if you’ll die tomorrow”.
“When you have time to stop and think about this world we live in, and the relatively short time that we have here, you begin to realise how the land controls almost everything. The land is a permanent feature that we only borrow for the time we have in this world, and everyone who looks after land, be it farm or garden has a responsibility to look after it for the next generation.”
Many do not stop to think of how precious our land is and how easy it is to ruin it. We on the farm have a precious gift to give to the future. This land is not ours, despite what we say, we just borrow it for a few short years. I think it’s time we all farm as if we’ll farm for ever, and live as if we’ll die tomorrow.
