Flash drought?

That was a new one.  This morning on the ag. weather they were talking about a “flash drought.”  I’ve heard of flash floods and flash mobs and flash bulbs, but a flash drought?

It seems that since the weather turned from wet to dry so fast they are considering the dry in the upper midwest a flash drought.  We really have gone from an over supply of water to none in no time at all.  The dry weather that had Texas and Oklahoma in its grip moved into the upper midwest and took over.  This will be good for harvest, but not for crop development.  Sandy spots in fields are dying.  The corn crop needs an inch of water a week during July and August and there has been no measurable rain here in over a month.

This sure has been an unusual year weather wise.
