Minnesota Farmer

Who do you believe?

There is a lot of talk going on about food and food production.  I have a question for you.  Who do you believe, someone actually involved in agriculture or a journalist?

Michael Pollan is a professor of journalism at the University of California, Berkeley. He is the author, most recently, of “In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto.”  He is telling people all over how we should be raising food.  His converts are willing to believe all kinds of manufactured facts about farming, a subject he has “studied” but never participated in.

Pollan’s ideas are drawing attention from the folks with enough money to afford to buy only organic, or grass fed, or free range.  The problem is that not everyone can afford them.  So here’s the question Mr. Pollan, how do we feed the world with the smaller amount of food your plan produces?  Our world is going to double in population in the next 50 years and we need to figure that out.
