ELCA draft Statement on Genetics

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is looking for comments on their “Draft Social Statement on Genetics.” You can find the statement online at <www.elca.org/geneticsdraft>  Congregations of the ELCA are invited to study and respond to the study by October 15, 2010.

Genetic science is changing so fast that laws cannot keep up.  What was the cutting edge and political focus of genetic research only a few years ago is now old science.  This ELCA social statement is to help church members form judgements and decide what action if any must be taken.

God has given us the ability to study genetics and to manipulate the genome.  It is our responsibility to say whether this is something God wants us to do.
