Because of the rain

My bus route was interesting this morning because of all the things I saw.  Here’s a list of the things I saw this morning because of the rain.

Because of the rain –

  • Roads have eroded edges and surfaces.
  • Road ditches are full of water.
  • Corn and soybean fields are so full that in some cases you cannot see the crop.
  • Large round hay bales have started to float away.
  • The Perkins Creek Bridge on River Road was under water.
  • The football field had so much water on it that you could not see the seats of the players bench.

Yes, two feet of water on the football field makes the field unplayable.  Since tonight was to be the Homecoming game, they moved the game to Worthington.

Two area schools started late today so they could deal with the extra water.  One school is closed again today because of a roof leak.

Local stores have had to get in emergency shipments of sump pumps.  Water is filling the storm and sanitary sewers and people are being asked to use less water.

8.5 inches of water in 36 hours is a bit much to deal with, especially when it falls in such a wide area.  This water is going to take a while to go away.
