What! I thought this series was about after the harvest? Now you are talking about getting ready for harvest? What is this?
So harvest is done, and now we look immediately to the to the next harvest in this day 15 of the 30 day challenge on what farmers do after the harvest.
The harvest is over and we have cleaned up our machinery, but rather than put it away, now is the time to check out all of our machines to see what needs to be fixed. Is there a machine that should be replaced either because it will not make it through another harvest, or because it no longer fits into your idea of what the future of your farm is.
It is so much easier to put a machine into the shed ready to go next year than it is to remember what problems you had with the machine last year. So it is that we are repairing our machinery before it goes to storage for the next time we need it. Unless the weather completely shuts us out, we get all of our machines ready to go. Next year will be that much easier if you go the extra mile now. It makes fall all that much more work, but the result is worth it.
